It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

Goodbye snow. Goodbye ice. Goodbye winter.
Hello green grass. Hello flowers. Hello spring.

Yes, folks. It's true. It's now officially spring . Did you celebrate? I sure did. You ask how does one celebrate spring? And I say, what better way to celebrate spring (or anything really) than baking cupcakes.

And that is just what I did.

Okay, let's  not talk about the cupcakes themselves. Gross. Eww. Yuck.

Cherries.

Who doesn't love cherries and cherry cupcakes?
Ha, well when your cherry cupcakes taste oddly like corn fritters.....one does not love cherry cupcakes.

But one still spends hours decorating in an attempt to at least make gross cupcakes look good.

Now getting into this, I had no game plan. But I did know that I had a set of super cute fondant cutters sitting in a drawer that I had yet to use. And I also knew that for some odd reason, I was overcome with a creative burst. Weird, I know.

So I mixed, colored, rolled, and cut away. Not sure what was going to happen and then BAM! Egg cartons have round holes! Flowers are round...round-ish...maybe a little bit round. No, flowers are not round..but the petals curve up...like the holes in egg cartons! BRAIN WAVE!

Okay, you probably don't follow that logic but to me it made sense.

And so that was my plan of action.

Three different sized cutter, three different colors of fondant. Could life be any more perfect? And so went the flower making process.

And that's the just of it. Smack a glob of icing on top of the cupcake, stick in two fondant leaves and plop on a flower. Simple, really.

Guess what? Want to know something totally unrelated to baking or even these cupcakes? Yes. You do.

I'm leaving for Ottawa on Sunday! Yay! Me and two friends are flying out for a week for a government information type thinger. Anyways, I'm super excited! Here's a link if you want to check out what it's all about. "Forum for Young Canadians."

Spring break is just around the corner now, any big plans? And yes, sleeping in and doing nothing do count as big plans.

There is one thing you should know about me before you continue reading. I do not like flowers. I cannot garden. I kill every type of plant. Not on purpose, simply because I cannot keep anything alive. Well, I did have a bamboo plant for almost 5 years...but it died the other day. Sad, I know.
So despite the fact that I don't like real flowers, I am a huge fan of flower cakes, cupcakes, and cookies.

Okay who am I kidding..I'm a big fan of any kind of cake, cupcake, or cookie.

I'm rambling, sorry. This is what happens when I have no homework for the second day in a row. I start to go into writing withdrawal. I love writing and when I have no homework I miss writing. But I will control myself and stop with this nonsense.

So goodbye for now. Until we meet again,
Sydney :)
